Adventures by Disney Norway: Day Two

| |

Bergen is known as the gateway to the fjords and as sad as we were to be leaving this charming city by the sea, we had no idea what was awaiting us! Each day of our Adventures by Disney vacation would continue to elevate, blending grandeur with the cozy charm of Norway’s most enchanting places. If you missed our inspiration for visiting Norway and our Day 1 adventures, you can read more about that here.

Our morning greeted us with the most incredible breakfast buffet! From fresh pastries, Norwegian cheeses, a rainbow of fruit options, freshly squeezed juices, a hot chocolate bar, the list went on. We then boarded the bus that would be our escort around Norway for the next week. If you’re worried about spending too much time on the road or being uncomfortable, rest assured—this was no ordinary ride. The seats reclined, the windows were expansive, you could charge your devices (essential for all those fjord photos!) and our wonderful guides, Lisa and Paola, were ready to point out important landmarks along the way along with sprinkling in the history and culture of Norway. They truly made the drive feel like part of the adventure and Lisa was born and raised in Norway and wrote a guide book to visiting, so when I say these trips are authentic, I mean it!

Voss

Our first stop was in Voss, known as the adventure capital of Norway, where rafting the glacier fed Voss River was first up on the itinerary. Adventures by Disney had all the gear and guides arranged and after changing into our dry suits and helmets, we headed out to the river banks for a safety overview and an introduction to our rafting guides. These amazing people were from all over the world-Argentina, Chile, Nepal, and Mexico, and they made our river experience so much fun.

Adventures by Disney had photographers on the river ready to capture our favorite moments.

The rapids were perfect for all ages and in between navigating those, we played various raft games (think duck, duck goose on a boat) and after two hours of river time, we were at our take-out spot where hot chocolate and tea awaited us. Lunch was a barbeque back at a charming cabin with a sod roof and river views.

Foss

Whenever you see the word foss, it translates to waterfall and as we headed deeper into fjord country, our guides knew exactly where to stop. On our journey outside of Voss, we got our first look at a Norwegian waterfall upclose and it left us all awestruck! Tvindefossen, which translates to ‘twin falls,’ was a quick but memorable stop, offering the perfect chance to soak in the beauty and snap some unforgettable photos. It was stops like these throughout our Norwegian journey that truly set our adventure apart.

Viking Village & Nærøyfjord

Viking tales are at the heart of Norwegian history, and our visit to the Njardarheimr Viking Village felt like stepping back in time a thousand years. As we wandered through the reconstructed camp, we glimpsed daily life in the Viking age—learning how they dyed fabrics, crafted their legendary ships, and forged the weapons they carried. What struck me most, though, was how different the reality was from the fearsome legends. While the word ‘Viking’ translates to pirate or sea warrior, many were simply farmers navigating the seas to provide for their families and communities—kind of like the Robin Hoods of Norway.

Just beyond the village lies Nærøyfjord, one of only two Norwegian fjords recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites—and it was our very first glimpse into the breathtaking world of Norway’s fjords. Known as the country’s narrowest fjord, Nærøyfjord immediately captivated us with its dramatic beauty. And this was only the beginning—our Adventures by Disney journey promised even more opportunities to explore this enchanting landscape.

Flam & Fretheim Hotel

Flam Views

Our journey for the day was capped off with an introduction to the enchanting village of Flåm. Nestled between towering mountains and the serene waters of Aurlandsfjord, this tiny village—home to just 200 residents—feels like a hidden gem, even though it welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Lucky for us, we had two nights planned here and we were staying at the lovely and historic Fretheim Hotel.

Fretheim Hotel nestled at the base of the mountains

Recognized as one of the top 25 historic hotels in the world, the Fretheim Hotel dates back to 1870, originally serving as a farm and later a modest inn for local fishermen. As Flåm’s popularity grew, the hotel expanded to accommodate more guests—while carefully preserving the historic charm that continues to enchant visitors. We loved our stay here, with its dramatic views of the fjord and it’s location was an easy walk to so many of the attractions we were there to explore the following day!

Day three of our Adventure with Disney was all about adventuring on the fjords and you can read our highlights here! Make sure you check out Adventures by Disney Norway Day 1, too if you missed that post.

Tips from Day Two, Adventures by Disney Norway

  • You’ll be spending several hours on the bus, so have a backpack or bag ready to go with your refillable water bottle, chargers, and anything else to make your travel day more comfortable.
  • Pack a swimsuit for the rafting adventure along with shower essentials post-river time.
  • Pack layers and dress comfortably. Nothing fancy here!
