Adventures by Disney Norway: Day Four

| |

Our time in Flam and Undredal left quite the impression on us and if you’d told me that our morning leaving Flam would begin with a bus ride through Norway’s longest tunnel, I probably would have thought: dark, boring, and maybe even a little claustrophobic. But in true Disney fashion, it turned into a party—complete with glow bracelets, music, and dancing. We were moving deeper into fjord country and we were about to be enthralled as the landscape became more dramatic with its countless waterfalls and snow capped peaks surrounding us. I’m sharing the highlights of our journey to Geiranger below and make sure you check out day 1, day 2, and day 3 of our adventures in Norway!

Borgund Stave Church

Our first stop was a visit to the remarkably well-preserved Borgund Stave Church, built around AD 1180. Considered one of Norway’s iconic structures, a stave church is a medieval wooden church built with beautifully carved portals and four carved dragon heads on the roof peaks inspired by Norse mythology. It is a sight to behold and of the 2,000 original stave churches in Norway, only 28 remain. We had the most gorgeous weather to enjoy this area, step inside this space and be transported back in time. There is a small gift shop here and icecream before lunch was on the menu.

Lunch With A View

After leaving the church, we experienced something new—a ferry crossing while still on our bus! Soon after, we arrived at our lunch stop: the charming Fjærland Fjordstove Hotel & Restaurant. It’s one of those quintessential Norwegian gems that instantly makes you feel at home—cozy, quaint, and so welcoming you don’t want to leave. Set right on an upper branch of Western Norway’s spectacular Sognefjord, this spot stole my heart with its views of the fjord and warm ambience.

One of the many reasons I love and highly recommend Adventures by Disney is their commitment to supporting local businesses and uncovering hidden gems like this—places rich with history, delicous food, and a picture-perfect atmosphere. Adventures by Disney tours are the only groups approved by the hotel to enjoy lunch here, making it that much more special.

Geiranger Welcome

After lunch, we began our journey to Geiranger through the historic mountain road Trollstigen, also known as the Troll’s Path. Without a doubt, this is the most scenic and unforgettable drives I’ve ever experienced and the incredible views made every one of the hairpin turns woth it. When I am old and gray and revisiting cherished memories, I know that Geiranger will remain as one of my favorite places to have ever visited. As we crested the ridge and began our winding our way down the pass, with waterfalls tumbling off the mountains, and hayfields dotting the hillslopes, with the expanse of the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord laid out before us, it felt like stepping straight into a fairytale.

We stayed at the lovely Hotel Union perched above the fjord, surrounded by the roar of the rivers and their cascading falls flowing towards the fjord and the village below. There is a scenic path along the river to walk to the village and we loved the outdoor (heated) and indoor swimming pools. Disney had even arranged a private dining room for our group, offering panoramic views of the fjord—a cozy setting for breakfast and dinner alike. With such breathtaking scenery outside our windows, it was easy to drift off dreaming of what awaited us next on day five of this unforgettable adventure. Day five of our Adventures in Norway is coming soon!

Tips from Day Four, Adventures by Disney Norway

  • You’ll be spending several hours on the bus, so have a backpack or bag ready to go with your refillable water bottle, chargers, and anything else to make your travel day more comfortable.
  • Part of the drive is windy, so be prepared with any medication that helps you combat motion sickness or ask to sit closer to the front of the bus.
  • Pack layers and dress comfortably. Nothing fancy here!
  • The walk down to the village is very worth it and across from the Union Hotel is the Norwegian Fjord Centre, a visitor center and education hub for the West Norwegian Fjords – the only area in Norway inscribed on UNESCO’s prestigious World Heritage List for its natural significance.
