Saint Lucia’s Airport Ferry Overview

|

Picture it. You’ve just landed in Saint Lucia. You step onto the tarmac and are greeted by a representative to escort you to the front of the immigration line.  And instead of a long drive ahead through the windy, mountainous roads to your resort, you take a quick taxi ride to a marina where you are greeted with a cold beverage.  You step aboard a ferry waiting to escort you up the Caribbean coast and your vacation is off to a wonderful start.  I just experienced this on my recent trip to Saint Lucia and am so glad that I knew this option existed. I’m sharing all the details below!

What To Expect

The ferry has two levels and you can book a seat in the air-conditioned cabin or on the open-air, upper deck.  Your luggage will be with you and they will handle getting it on and off the boat. They give a brief safety briefing and then you begin your journey.  Beverages offered included wine, champagne, soft drinks, bottled water and of course, Saint Lucia’s famous Piton beer.  Depending on how far north your resort is, the journey can take between 90 minutes and two hours.  We were staying at Sandals La Toc and our journey with one stop in Marigot Bay took about one hour and forty minutes.  You’ll be dropped off at a dock in a bay closest to your resort and then a driver will escort you in an air-conditioned vehicle right to your lobby.

What You’ll See

Along your journey up the coast, onboard staff will point out unique landmarks and you will sail right by the magnificent Pitons, the soaring mountains that make Saint Lucia famous.  If you get lucky, you may also see some wildlife like we did!  A pod of dolphins were showing off for us as we got close to the Pitons and it was magical.  We also got to see Marigot Bay, the area where Dr. Doolittle was filmed.  There is even a restaurant in the bay named after the film, DOOlittle’s.  Have your camera ready for some gorgeous scenery and the staff will also take any requested photos.

What’s Included

Included in the package is transportation from Hewanorra airport to the ferry, the boat ride, beverages, light snacks, and transportation from the boat to your resort.  You can also add on the Fast Track Airport Concierge Service for an additional fee which I highly recommend as it will save you so much time going through customs and immigration.  We walked by a very long line of people waiting as you can see from the photos below.  Gratuities for the staff and drivers are not included.

I highly recommend booking the ferry transfer from Hewanorra International Airport if you plan to stay on the northwest side of the island.  It will not only save you time, but you’ll avoid a long drive and start your vacation with a transportation option that also feels like a tour/excursion.  You can also book this at the end of your stay in Saint Lucia!  Are you ready to book your vacation to Saint Lucia? 1. Good afternoon crew,

Just wanted to say thank you!! We took the ferry because we wanted to start our vacation on the water not the road, and so glad we did. The staff are professional, very personable, well organized and fun to be around, loved the welcome we received at the airport, expedited us through customs, took care of our luggage and handed us a drink as we boarded. The boat was clean and spacious, the 2hr trip was fun, the music was great, we learned some fun facts about the island and the places we passed on route.

We enjoyed the outbound trip so much that we ended our first visit to St Lucia by booking the return journey back to the airport with you which was the best way to say goodbye, until the next time!!

    Highly recommend without a doubt.
